Shift Dress Shifting Tides

I’m wearing a shift dress in honor of the shifting tides in America. More specifically, in honor of the Supreme Court decision to legalize gay marriage across the nation, declaring with a booming voice heard from sea to shining sea that love is love. With that bold act, many long years in the making, this here world got a little kinder, and lord knows we needed some good news. I’ve been “liking” pictures on social media of my same sex coupled friends and celebrating with them this hard won victory. Do I feel a little less cool today because I’m not gay? A little left out because there are no photos of me kissing a girl and liking it? You bet. But I’m happy to cheer from my hetero sidelines while all my gay besties revel in their deserved spotlight. Truth be known they’ve always been cooler than me anyway. But hey, I’ve got this blue shift dress! All the rage this season dontcha know. As ever and always, I ground myself and express myself through fashion. This dress feels light and playful, just like my heart on this historic occasion. #LoveWins.

With love,

Amanda

Blue Jeans White Shirt

The classic blue jean. There’s nothing like it. It’s the wardrobe staple to end all wardrobe staples. It could be the tie that binds us all together in fashionable love and harmony, across political lines, racial divides, geographical borders. Maybe the key to empathy and understanding, the secret to world peace, can be found in our shared love of denim. Or maybe they just make our butts look cute. Either way I’m on board. This distressed pair of Joe’s Jeans are my new absolute favorites. Declarative Sidebar: I swear I don’t earn a red cent for all this bloggy Joe’s love, thanks in part to my commitment to editorial integrity and my lack of business acumen. But if someone wants to throw money at me I won’t fight them. Now back to the jean… they’re a high waisted, light washed, wide legged bunch of goodness and they make me feel gorgy* no matter how my weight fluctuates (thank you lycra stretch). I finished the look with my Topshop hat, a simple white lace tank, some wood beaded bracelets and pair of ASH wood platform sandals. What’s your favorite denim right now?

*Sometimes I use words that the dictionary doesn’t recognize, like this one, gorgy, an extension of gorg which is a contraction of gorgeous… moving on and waiting for Webster’s to catch up.

Love and a White Lace Dress

When I fall in love, I fall hard. And right now, my heart belongs to the white lace dress. My love is evidenced by the fact that I own multiples of this at once trendy and timeless wardrobe must-have. The version I’m wearing here called to me from across a crowded Forever 21. I bought two of them. I wish I’d bought a dozen. They are perfection, and when you find the one, you gotta hoard. I have anxiety over the day when this one is too worn to be, well, worn. Then what will I do?! But enough about the end, this love affair has only just begun. I’m making memories in this dress that will last a lifetime. I’ve already taken her to the season wrap party for Kingdom (a spectacular TV show my hubby wrote and produced alongside a team of stellar talents); she’s been to Gracias Madre for a birthday dinner and to the opening night of the LA Modernism Show. I like to play with contrast and pair her (yes, I anthropomorphize my clothes) with a black bootie, these ones from a several-seasons-old Alice and Olivia collection. In the immortal words of a one Lana del Rey, who would rock the heck out of this dress btw, “when you find true love it lives on.”
