Denim Shorts and a White Shirt aka I’m Back in LA!

It might be stating the obvious to say this, but each city has its own character, its own essential style, and when in Rome, well, one has to dress the part. Or in Paris, or Los Angeles. It never ceases to amaze me how my aesthetic morphs to match wherever I happen to be in the world. Take these super short shorts. I would never dream of wearing them in Paris. But now that I’m back home in Los Angeles, nothing feels more natural. Plus these are the last days of summer and I’ve got to live every remaining moment to its causal-dress-code fullest. Here I’ve paired my American Eagle shorts with a stolen (from my husband’s drawer) belt, a white shirt from Anne Fontaine, and my new go-to booties from Dolce Vita. It was nearly 100 degrees the day we took these photos, so, sitting anywhere, including on a random piece of pipe, seemed like a really good idea. But I digress. Playing dress up in Paris was heaven, it’s true, but there’s no place like home.

With love,

Amanda

Metallic Shoe aka Statement Piece

I preach at the alter of simplicity. I’m not much for jewelry and accessories are a minimal part of my style vernacular. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a person who can layer lariats, stack rings and wrap scarves that stretch as far as the day is long, but I’m not one of them. That said, I am occasionally drawn to a good statement piece. These metallic oxfords from Monoprix are a good example. They are at once understated and bold, classic and stretching boundaries. And they are my new obsession. I bought them from the store around the corner from Café de Flore where I may have fueled my shopping fervor with one too many cups of chocolat chaud. However I came to them, these shoes are my new faves. Watch this space for all the many ways I’ll make a statement in my Parisian grocery store find.

With love,

Amanda

Ballet Flats and Two Minis

I have an ongoing girl crush on Audrey Hepburn. And yes, I realize I’m not alone in this chic-appreciation cum borderline obsessive admiration. But, like so many enduring affairs of the heart, my fixation on the object of my desire ebbs and flows. Well, the floodgates opened this week in Paris when I stood in front of this spectacular fountain, the Fontaine Saint Sulpice, and skipped about in my black ballet flats. Visions of Roman Holiday danced in my head and I felt Holly Golightly on my feet and filled with a certain joie de vivre. My black mini bandage skirt added a voluminous, flirty and modern touch to my fantasy moment, and my Minnie Mortimer dress-turned-top (what can I say, I ate my way across Paris) rounded out my unwitting Audrey Hepburn homage. Alas, as (further) evidence of the great divide between me and Audrey, I did not have the guts to splash about in the fountain like she might have. But, to quote the icon herself, “The most important thing is to enjoy your life — to be happy — it’s all that matters.” And in this moment, I was very happy indeed.

With love,

Amanda
