If you’ve listened to the news at all in the last few days, weeks, months, years… you’ll know that our world is experiencing a lot of tumult. From climate change, earthquakes and tsunamis, to acts of violence in places of peace, it can all feel like too much. Whether we know it or not, we all bear the emotional weight of those discordant events. I often feel like a beast of burden, trying to sort out how best to bear my load. Things had been going along pretty well and then the sun set on Paris on November 13, and my knees buckled. Too much to bear. But I’m a mom of two beautiful girls, and knee-buckling isn’t a luxury I can afford. So what to do? I head for the hills. The Hollywood Hills to be precise. I have been hiking the dusty trails of Runyon Canyon for nearly twenty years, and in all that time its mountains and valleys, vistas and inclines have never ceased to renew my energy and simultaneously strengthen my mind and my body. Exercise and time in nature, it’s a powerful one two stress relieving punch. Did the hike make it all better? Well, for a little while it did give me a sense of peace, something I pray the world can have more of. #PrayforParis #PrayforPeace
