Bell of the Ball

Amanda Luttrell Garrigus in a white sheer bell sleeve dress

The Met Gala just came and went, and I was not there. (I say this a lot. Hmmm. Note to self: Reassess your social calendar.) Well, I was there in spirit. And I thought it would be fun to wear something pseudo-glam to observe the dazzling melee from my perch here in Los Angeles. This MINKPINK, bell sleeve, sheer white dress fit the bill nicely. It’s at once a nightgown and, depending on the occasion and my mood, a viable red carpet option. It’s something I imagine Beyoncé wearing in a quiet moment of solitary reflection, while sipping lemonade. Plus it’s on trend with all the sheer looks we’ve been seeing of late. This dress could be so many things to so many people if only you’d give her the chance. (That is not a personal appeal. Unless you’re likely to respond with an endorsement deal, in which case, it is.) What were some of your favorite looks from the first Monday in May? Click here for a few of mine.

Do What Makes You Happy

Simple. Right? Just do it. Whatever makes you happy. But then, maybe it’s not as easy as it sounds. Sometimes the thing that makes you happy is something you have to struggle for, fight for, work hard towards. Maybe what makes you happy is attached to something that feels outside your control. Perhaps what you think will make you happy isn’t really the thing at all, but in the pursuit of one thing you’ll find another, better thing. Take me for example. I love my work as a TV Correspondent. Talking about fashion and style in front of rolling cameras makes me happy. But I don’t get to do it all that often. Alas, such is the nature of the beast. So, I created this blog so that I could work when not working. And as it turns out, it makes me very happy. The moral of my brief tale? Keep striving toward your goal, but be open to the joyful things you find along the way. You just might decide to stay a while, or to change course altogether. And what a happy accident that would be.

With love,

Amanda
