Ballet Flats and Two Minis

I have an ongoing girl crush on Audrey Hepburn. And yes, I realize I’m not alone in this chic-appreciation cum borderline obsessive admiration. But, like so many enduring affairs of the heart, my fixation on the object of my desire ebbs and flows. Well, the floodgates opened this week in Paris when I stood in front of this spectacular fountain, the Fontaine Saint Sulpice, and skipped about in my black ballet flats. Visions of Roman Holiday danced in my head and I felt Holly Golightly on my feet and filled with a certain joie de vivre. My black mini bandage skirt added a voluminous, flirty and modern touch to my fantasy moment, and my Minnie Mortimer dress-turned-top (what can I say, I ate my way across Paris) rounded out my unwitting Audrey Hepburn homage. Alas, as (further) evidence of the great divide between me and Audrey, I did not have the guts to splash about in the fountain like she might have. But, to quote the icon herself, “The most important thing is to enjoy your life — to be happy — it’s all that matters.” And in this moment, I was very happy indeed.

With love,

Amanda
